Ivorian winger Bénie Traoré has completed his transfer from FC Basel to Major League Soccer side New York City FC, bringing an end to his spell with the Swiss club after a productive season.

The move was confirmed by Basel, with the 23-year-old signing a contract that will keep him at New York City FC until the summer of 2030. The agreement also includes an option to extend his stay by a further year.

Traoré departs Basel after joining the club from Sheffield United in 2024. During his time in Switzerland, the Ivorian attacker established himself as an important member of the squad with a series of influential performances.

In the 2025-26 campaign, he scored 11 goals and registered five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions, contributing consistently in the final third.

His performances attracted attention before New York City FC completed the transfer, securing the services of the winger on a long-term deal as they strengthen their squad for the future.

Speaking after completing the move, Traoré explained the reasons behind his decision to continue his career in Major League Soccer.

He said the club’s style of play, its ambitions and the confidence shown in him convinced him that New York City FC was the right destination for the next stage of his career.

Traoré leaves Basel after just one season, having made a significant contribution following his arrival from Sheffield United. His tally of 11 goals and five assists underlined his importance to the Swiss side during the campaign.

Now, the 23-year-old begins a new chapter in the United States, where he will seek to build on the form he showed in Switzerland.

With a contract running until 2030 and the possibility of an additional year, New York City FC have secured the services of the Ivorian talent on a long-term basis as he prepares for the next phase of his career in Major League Soccer.
