Newcastle United have identified Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney as a potential target for the upcoming winter transfer window, according to Saudi journalist Batal Al-Qaws.
The report adds a fresh dimension to speculation over the England international’s future, despite Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle denying that the Premier League club has opened negotiations with Al-Ahli over the player.
Speaking on his programme Fi Al-Merma, Al-Qaws said Toney was among Newcastle United’s priorities for the winter market. The striker’s previous relationship with Jaissle is understood to be a factor in the reported interest.
Jaissle previously coached Al-Ahli and worked with Toney during the forward’s time in the Saudi Pro League. The German manager therefore knows the striker’s qualities and the attacking contribution he could offer his current side.
The link comes after Jaissle rejected claims that Newcastle United had entered talks with Al-Ahli about a possible deal for Toney. He also indicated that the English club’s commitment to financial fair play rules could prevent it from completing the transfer.
There has been no official announcement of an offer from Newcastle United, nor any confirmation that negotiations between the two clubs have begun. At present, the player’s possible move remains based on the information reported by Al-Qaws.
Toney remains under contract with Al-Ahli, who will continue to monitor developments surrounding the striker. No details have been given about a potential transfer fee or the terms of any proposed agreement.
The report comes with Newcastle United preparing for their Premier League fixture against Everton on 02 November 2026, while Al-Ahli are listed for a Saudi Pro League match against Al-Shabab on 30 October 2026.
