Former Egypt international Ahmed Hossam Mido has launched a fierce attack on the Confederation of African Football following the explosive decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco.

The ruling by Confederation of African Football’s Appeals Committee continues to spark outrage across the continent, with Mido emerging as one of the most outspoken critics. The ex-striker did not hold back, branding the verdict a “historic scandal” and warning of long-term damage to African football’s credibility.

While stressing that he holds no grudges against Morocco, Mido insisted the decision was fundamentally unjust, arguing that Senegal had rightfully earned the trophy on the pitch.

“CAF is a right joke! I’ve been saying it for years,” he fumed. “The decision to strip Senegal of the Cup and give it to Morocco is the biggest scandal in the history of football.”

Mido went further, warning that the fallout from the ruling could fracture unity within the African game and tarnish its global image. According to him, such controversial decisions reinforce negative perceptions about governance on the continent.

“This decision will divide Africa… We’re being made to look like idiots, a corrupt continent. Africa deserves better!” he added.

The former forward also called for sweeping changes within CAF, demanding immediate reforms and a complete overhaul of leadership structures.

“There needs to be a revolution in African football; all these people must go today, not tomorrow,” he declared.

Despite his strong criticism, Mido was careful to separate his stance from any criticism of Morocco, expressing admiration for the country while maintaining that the title should not have been reassigned.

“I’m not against Morocco; I love that country and its people… but you lost on the pitch. Senegal were the better team and deserve this title,” he said. “I wanted to congratulate my Moroccan friends, but I can’t congratulate someone on something won in the boardroom rather than on the pitch.”

The controversy surrounding the AFCON 2025 final continues to escalate, with growing calls for transparency and accountability within CAF. As pressure mounts, the governing body faces increasing scrutiny over a decision that could have lasting repercussions for African football.
