Defender Keanu Cupido says joining Mamelodi Sundowns is the proudest moment of his football career.

The 27-year-old joins Sundowns on a permanent deal, ending his seven years spell fellow South African club, Cape Town City.

Before joining Cape Town City, the enterprising defender had spent two years in France, featuring for AC Ajaccio.

Despite being on the wishlist of Bidvest Wits, Keanu Cupido opted to return to Gauteng after establishing himself as a key cog to Cape Town City’s team.

Cupido becomes the third signing of Sundowns after South African, Jayden Adams and Argentine defender Lucas Suarez.

“I feel like this is a full circle for me. I came here as a kid, I left and now I’m back,” said Cupido.

”This is the proudest moment for me as a footballer because I know the standards of Mamelodi Sundowns and I feel like I need keep the standards as well.

“My name is Keanu Cupido and I’m Yellow.”

He made 15 appearances across competitions in the ongoing campaign for Cape Town City.

Cupido amassed 143 appearances for City across all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists in his seven-year spell at the club.

He has capped two times for the South African national team since making his debut.
