Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has described his first senior England call-up as a surreal moment in his career.
Quansah, who is of Ghanaian descent, has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley.
The selection marks a significant step for the young defender, who was overlooked by former England manager Gareth Southgate.
Despite limited game time under Liverpool boss Arne Slot, Quansah has impressed enough to earn a place in the squad.
He has made only 10 starts this season, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté dominating Liverpool’s central defense.
However, with Trent Alexander-Arnold ruled out of the League Cup final against Newcastle United, Quansah is expected to start at right-back on Sunday.
Speaking about his England call-up, Quansah expressed his excitement and determination.
“It’s a surreal feeling. Obviously with the last camp, it was to step in and stuff like that. But this one is definitely the first one where I feel part of the squad, it’s a great feeling.”
He also reflected on missing out on the previous England squad under Southgate.
“Have I spoken to the new manager? No, not yet. But football’s about ups and downs. Last time, not doing what I wanted to and not being picked for the Euros… I just tried to bounce back and be in a better position for this season. It’s good to be part of the plans.”
