Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy has expressed his desire to feature at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA.
The Egyptian powerhouse among the few African club set to represent the continent at the revised Club World Cup in the North American country.
Al Ahly, who are paired in Group A will open their account against Major League Soccer club, Inter Miami.
However, Mohamed El Shenawy, who doubles as goalkeeper for the Egyptian national team has rallied for support from their fans in their quest to make impact at the tournament.
Egypt has a large community in the USA, with Shenawy advocating for support for the tournament.
“Of course, it is a very nice feeling to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup with its new system, and to write the history of Al-Ahly club, and Al-Ahly is the best team on the African continent, playing the opening match in the FIFA Club World Cup is a very big thing, especially that we will play in front of the Inter Miami team, which includes a number of legends such as Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi” Shenawy told FIFA website.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper has almost spent his entire career at Al Ahly. He joined the Egpytian giants and has since been integral for the side.
This season, Shenawy, has made 20 appearances, conceding 14 goals and keeping 9 clean sheets.
