Bad news for Paul-José Mpoku, who has suffered a broken cheekbone following an incident during Chievo’s Serie A clash with Inter Milan. The injury occurred after Felipe Melo struck the Congolese midfielder with an elbow. Despite the severity of the foul, the referee took no disciplinary action against Melo during the match.
Adding to the controversy, Melo later dismissed the incident, stating cynically, “If you don’t want to play a contact sport, play tennis.”
At present, there is no official update regarding the expected length of Mpoku’s absence as he begins recovery from the injury.
