Abidal expressed his gratitude for the support he received from the sports community, emphasizing the values he learned through sports, such as sharing, courage, and strength of will. He acknowledged football as a family and felt the immense support from the community during his challenging times.
Reflecting on his health struggles, Abidal stated, “In battle, I never saw myself as a loser. I know that I am not safe from a relapse or another illness. Now I enjoy every moment spent with family or friends, which I didn’t do before.”
The Monaco player, who previously played for FC Barcelona, thanked both his current club and his former team for their unwavering support during his health challenges. Abidal, now 34, underwent treatment for a liver tumor while playing for FC Barcelona. He later received a liver transplant in 2012 after a cancer relapse, with his friend and teammate Dani Alves generously offering his liver.
