AC Milan are considering a move for France international of Congolese descent Jean-Philippe Mateta in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Italian giants are keen on augmenting their squad for the 2025/26 football campaign, and Mateta, who plies his trade for Crystal Palace has emerged as a priority target.
Mateta has been a subject of interest for several clubs in Europe following an outstanding performance for Crystal Palace. He racked up 17 goals and provided 4 assists in 46 appearances across competitions.
AC Milan are in the market for attacking reinforcements following Alvaro Morata’s loan move to Galatasaray.
Currently, Lorenzo Colombo and Santiago Gimenez remains the only two attackers for Milan. However, the Rossoneri have made initial steps towards signing Mateta, but Crystal Palace’s price tag for the Frenchman, above the €30m mark, has reportedly cooled Milan’s interest.
As for Mateta, the former Lyon striker is reportedly enticed by the prospect of being coached by Allegri. The 28-year-old believes that leaving Crystal Palace for a more prestigious European team could represent his only chance to join Didier Deschamps’ France national team in time for the 2026 World Cup.
He joined Crystal Palace in 2022 from Mainz for €11 million and, since then, has played 152 matches, scoring 46 goals and providing 11 assists.
The forward’s current contract with Crystal Palace runs until 2027. However, he could exit the club this summer amid growing interest.
