England defender Marc Guehi has admitted that containing Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo will be a major challenge when the two sides meet at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
England have been drawn in Group L alongside Ghana, Canada and Mexico for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.
One of the standout fixtures in the group is the clash between the Three Lions and the Black Stars, scheduled for June 23.
Speaking during a media engagement alongside Semenyo, Guehi was full of respect for his Premier League counterpart and the strength of the Ghanaian squad.
“Of course [it’s going to be a challenge stopping this guy], and they’ve got a fantastic team with great players as well,” he said.
Semenyo has been in fine form at club level this season, scoring 12 league goals and establishing himself as one of Ghana’s key attacking threats heading into the World Cup.
Before turning their attention to international duty, both Guehi and Semenyo are expected to be involved in Premier League action on Sunday, February 8, when their respective sides face Liverpool at Anfield.
