It was a disgusting final – Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro assesses clash with Kaizer Chiefs

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has opened up on the South African Cup final between his outfit and Kaizer Chiefs, saying it was a disgusting final.

Kaizer Chiefs ended their trophy drought in South Africa at the weekend, defeating their rivals in a high stake Soweto clash. The Amakhosi outfit prevailed with a 2-1 win over Pirates, securing the Cup title over their rivals.

Forward Gaston Sorino opened the spring after just 10 minutes into the match before Evidence Makgopa leveled the score in the 17th-minute.

However, Kaizer Chiefs left it late with Yusuf Maart grabbing the match-winner in the 80th-minute mark.

But Pirates coach Riveiro was left unimpressed, describing the final disgusting as he believes the match was less about tactics and more about a physical battle.

“It was a disgusting final from start to finish. There wasn’t much football—just a lot of physical battles, and in that fight, they were better than us in the latter part of the game. Before the goal, we had several warnings that a goal was coming, and they managed to put another one in the net.

That’s the outcome. We tried to fix a couple of things in our play, but nothing special; it was similar to a league match but with less quality and less actual football today.

Again, congratulations to Kaizer Chiefs, this is theirs. We apologize to our players and fans—it’s another final. This time, we couldn’t make it, but we’ll be back. There’s no last dance; there’s a match on Tuesday that we have to win,” Riveiro stated.
