Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has expressed his disappointment after suffering a season-ending injury during the international break.
The 24-year-old, who was born in a refugee camp in Ghana to Liberian parents, injured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while playing for Canada and will miss the rest of the current campaign as well as the start of the 2025/26 season.
Davies took to Instagram to share an update, thanking fans for their support.
“Thank you guys for all your love and for your kind words and for all the support you’ve given me since my injury.
“It sucks to be out for this long, and for my season to end early, but I’ll be working hard to make sure I come back stronger,” he wrote.
His post received an outpouring of support from Bayern Munich teammates, including Jamal Musiala, Manuel Neuer, and Aleksandar Pavlović, who responded with heart emojis.
Former Dutch international Ryan Babel and AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori also sent messages of encouragement.
Davies sustained the injury just 10 minutes into Canada’s Concacaf Nations League third-place playoff match against the United States.
The situation has frustrated Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, who criticized the Canadian national team for not immediately revealing the severity of the injury.
Bayern only discovered the full extent of the damage after conducting their own medical tests when Davies returned to Germany.
This injury adds to Bayern’s defensive woes, as fellow center-back Dayot Upamecano also picked up a serious injury during the break.
