The head coach of AS Monaco, Adi Hutter has provided an update on the injury of American striker of Nigerian descent, Folarin Balogun.
According to him, the injury is not that serious and he expects the forward to return to action in the next matchday.
Balogun, 23, missed Monaco’s crucial 2-0 win over Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday after picking up an ankle injury during the final training session ahead of the match.
The victory secured a top-three Ligue 1 finish for AS Monaco and guaranteed their return to the UEFA Champions League for the 2025/26 football season.
Folarin Balogun had only just returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a dislocated shoulder. His absence against Lyon raised concerns, especially as the club initially confirmed the ankle injury without disclosing its severity.
However, speaking at his post-match press conference, Adi Hütter played down the seriousness of the issue. “He couldn’t play today (Saturday), but let’s see if he is a topic next week,” the coach said.
He added, “It isn’t too serious.”
Folarin Balogun is hoping to play again before the French Ligue 1 campaign comes to an end. This season, he has scored four goals after making 13 appearances in the league.
