Issoufou Dayo joins Wydad Casablanca after RS Berkane spell

Wydad Casablanca have confirmed the signing of Burkina Faso international Issoufou Dayo from fellow Moroccan side RS Berkane.

The experienced defender will continue his career in Morocco after bringing his long association with Berkane to an end and becoming the latest addition to Wydad’s squad.

Dayo, who has established himself as one of Burkina Faso’s leading defenders, joins Wydad as the Casablanca club look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The 34-year-old spent several years at RS Berkane, where he became an important figure in the club’s defence and played a key role in their success in domestic and African competitions.

His move to Wydad represents a new chapter for the veteran centre-back, who brings considerable experience at both club and international level.

Wydad announced the transfer on Thursday, welcoming Dayo to the club with the message: “A new chapter begins in Casablanca.”

The arrival of Dayo adds further experience and defensive depth to a Wydad side with ambitions of competing strongly on the domestic and continental fronts.

The Burkina Faso international has also been a regular member of his national team, giving Wydad a defender with extensive experience of high-level African football.

For Dayo, the move marks a fresh challenge after his successful period with Berkane, where he became a familiar figure in Moroccan football.

Wydad will hope his experience, physical presence and knowledge of African club football can strengthen their backline as they prepare for the demands of the upcoming campaign.
