Issa Soumaré: Rennes linked with move for Le Havre winger

Senegal-Mauritania left winger Issa Soumaré of Le Havre AC is being linked with a summer switch to Ligue 1 rivals Stade Rennais.

The 25-year-old, who holds both Senegalese and Mauritanian nationality, is currently valued at €8.00m, according to Transfermarkt, with Rennes reported to be tracking his situation closely. Data on his contract length at Le Havre is unclear, fuelling speculation that the wide man could yet emerge as a potential free agent if talks over his future do not advance. The probability of a move is currently listed only as “?”, underlining how early the discussions appear to be.

Soumaré, born in Podor on 10 October 2000 and listed at 1.84m, has been used predominantly as an attacking left winger but is right-footed, offering flexibility to cut inside from the flank. He wears the No 45 shirt for Le Havre and has established himself in France’s top flight after progressing with the Normandy club.

In recent Ligue 1 action, Soumaré featured for Le Havre in their match against top-flight opposition earlier this month, contributing from the wing in a game that underlined his direct running and work rate, although the fixture ended without a decisive impact from him on the scoreline. That performance has done little to cool interest, with Rennes understood to be monitoring his form as they assess wide options for next season.

Soumaré’s market value and age profile make him an attractive target for a club looking for attacking depth and resale potential. A move to Rennes would keep him in Ligue 1 but raise the competitive ceiling he faces week in, week out – a step that could prove pivotal in shaping his reputation and long-term prospects if the transfer speculation eventually turns into a deal.
