Issa Diop set for Ipswich Town move as Fulham agree €10m deal

Morocco international defender Issa Diop is on the verge of joining newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town after the club reached an agreement with Fulham over his transfer.

The 29-year-old centre-back is expected to complete the move in the coming days after agreeing personal terms on a four-year contract with the Portman Road outfit.

A medical examination is also expected to take place shortly before the transfer is officially confirmed.

Diop’s move comes on the back of an impressive 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, where he established himself as the leader of Morocco’s defence with a series of commanding performances.

His displays further enhanced his reputation as one of the country’s most experienced defenders and attracted renewed interest in the transfer market.

Fulham have agreed to sell the former Toulouse defender for a fee in the region of €10 million. With only one year remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage, the London club opted to cash in before he entered the final season of his deal.

Diop joined Fulham in August 2022 and went on to make 96 appearances for the club across all competitions during his four-year stay.

Although he featured in just 13 Premier League matches last season, he remained an experienced figure within Marco Silva’s squad.

Standing at 6ft 4in, Diop has amassed significant experience in England’s top flight. Across spells with West Ham United and Fulham, he has made 173 Premier League appearances, establishing himself as a reliable presence in central defence.

For Ipswich Town, Diop’s arrival would represent a major statement of intent as the newly promoted side strengthens its squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

His experience at the highest level, combined with his leadership qualities and aerial dominance, is expected to add stability to the club’s defensive unit as they prepare for the challenge of top-flight football.

An official announcement is expected once Diop successfully completes his medical and final paperwork.
