Senegalese international Issa Cissokho, formerly of FC Nantes, is moving to Italy’s Serie B after a brief and frustrating spell at Genoa. Initially linked with French club Girondins de Bordeaux, the right-back will instead spend the remainder of the season on loan at Bari, with an option to buy.
Cissokho’s time at Genoa, where he was transferred last summer for €500,000, failed to meet expectations. The 30-year-old made only thirteen Serie A appearances and struggled to establish himself under coach Gian Piero Gasperini. “My record is quite meager and sad. I thought I would have had more playing time,” Cissokho admitted to *L’Équipe* in December, reflecting his frustration.
Recent efforts to move him to Bordeaux did not materialize, leaving Bari as his next opportunity. At the Serie B club, Cissokho will join teammates Massimo Donati and Alessandro Rosina, hoping to regain regular minutes and reassert his career.
Bari officially confirmed the deal via a press release: “FC Bari 1908 SpA announces that it has acquired on loan with an option to buy, from Genoa CFC, the player Issa Cissokho (born February 23, 1985 in Paris), who will join the group this afternoon and wear the 34 jersey.”
For Cissokho, the move to Bari represents a chance to rebuild momentum and contribute to a team vying for promotion to Serie A, providing both stability and a platform to showcase his abilities.
