Issa Balboné appointed Burkina Faso Women's coach

Issa Balboné has been appointed as the new head coach of Burkina Faso’s women’s national team, taking over from Pascal Sawadogo as part of a wider reshuffle of the country’s national-team coaching structure.

The Burkina Faso Football Federation officially confirmed Balboné’s appointment in a statement published on social media on Tuesday, October 6, following a recruitment process to identify a new coach for the women’s senior national team.

Balboné is not new to the national-team setup, having previously been in charge of Burkina Faso’s men’s Under-17 side. His move to the women’s Stallions represents a new challenge as he takes responsibility for the senior women’s team.

“The Burkinabe Football Federation hereby informs the public and all stakeholders in national football that, following the application process to recruit a head coach for the Women’s Senior National Team, Issa BALBONÉ has been selected by the selection committee to take the reins of the team,” the Federation said.

The appointment forms part of the Federation’s broader efforts to reorganise the technical teams overseeing the various national sides.

With Balboné moving into the women’s national team role, the Federation has also appointed Mamadou Zongo as the new head coach of the men’s Under-17 team.

Zongo will therefore succeed Balboné in charge of the young Stallions, completing a reshuffle that sees both coaches take on new responsibilities within Burkina Faso’s national-team structure.

Balboné will now turn his attention to the women’s senior side as he prepares to begin work on building and strengthening the team for its upcoming international commitments.
