Ismaily suffered a painful early exit from the Egypt Cup after losing 3-1 away to Haras El Hodood in Alexandria in the round of 32 on Monday night.

The former cup winners, who lifted the trophy in 1997 and 2000, saw their hopes of a deep run end with a late collapse in extra time, adding more frustration to a difficult period for the club and its supporters.

Haras El Hodood struck first through Fawzy El Henawy in the 26th minute, but Ismaily captain Mohamed Ammar pulled his side level with an equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time at 45+3. With neither team able to find a winner in normal time, the match went to extra time, where the hosts showed more composure and cutting edge in front of goal.

Substitute Amr Gamal restored Haras El Hodood’s lead in the 94th minute, before Mahmoud Okka sealed the victory with a third goal right at the end of extra time in the 120th minute.

The win sends Haras El Hodood, coached by Ahmed Zahran, into the last 16 to face Smouha, while other ties in the round were set with ENPPI meeting Petrojet, Pharco advancing past Telephones Beni Suef, and Kahraba Ismailia knocking out Al Ittihad of Alexandria.
