Ismailia Electricity Club have submitted an official protest to the Egyptian Football Association, objecting the referees appointment committee decision to name Mohamed Abbas Qabil as the centre man for the Premier League clash against Zamalek.
The Cairo-based outfit will be hosted by Ismailia Electricity at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in the 17th round of the Egyptian League on Wednesday night.
The decision stem from Qabil’s management of the team’s match against Smouha on August 26, 2025, where his calls resulted in the referee being suspended by the refereeing committee due to his performance at a level unbecoming of the Egyptian refereeing system.
In a statement, Ismailia called on the referees committee to appoint an international refereeing team to manage the team’s match against Zamalek, in order to preserve the integrity of the competition, especially given the two teams’ competition to improve their positions in the league standings.
As announced earlier by the Egyptian FA, the high-stake clash will be officiated by referee Mohamed Abbas Qabil, assisted by Islam Abu Al-Ata and Mohamed Mustafa Ismail, while Haitham Othman will be the fourth official.
The video technology is handled by referee Hossam Azab, assisted by Ahmed Bakr.
Zamalek occupies fourth place in the standings with 25 points from 13 matches, while Ismailia sit 20th place, second to last, with 11 points from 15 matches.
