Crystal Palace advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2022 following a 3-1 triumph over Millwall on Saturday, with Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr featuring in the starting line-up.
The Eagles delivered a composed performance in the fifth-round clash, securing their place in the last eight without major trouble.
Although not at their most dazzling, Palace controlled proceedings and capitalised on key moments to overcome their South London rivals.
The game took an early dramatic turn when Millwall’s goalkeeper received a red card for a reckless challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta, who was subsequently stretchered off.
Palace took full advantage of their numerical superiority, breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Japhet Tanganga inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Dani Muñoz doubled the lead seven minutes later with a composed finish, putting Palace firmly in command.
However, Millwall briefly reignited their hopes deep into first-half stoppage time, as Wes Harding reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 13th minute of added time.
Despite the setback, Palace remained composed in the second half. Substitute Eddie Nketiah sealed the victory in the 81st minute, ensuring Roy Hodgson’s side progressed to the quarter-finals.
Ismaila Sarr, who played a key role on the wing, contributed to Palace’s attacking efforts throughout the match.
His involvement has been pivotal in the club’s recent cup run, with the team now aiming to replicate their 2022 journey to the semi-finals.
The win marks a significant step forward for Palace as they look to make a deeper run in the competition, with the quarter-finals offering a fresh opportunity to challenge for silverware.
