Ismaïla Sarr makes history at Crystal Palace

Senegal international Ismaïla Sarr has etched his name into the history books at Crystal Palace after becoming the first player from the club to score 20 or more goals in a single season since Glenn Murray in the 2012/13 campaign.

The forward was on target when Crystal Palace settled for a 2-2 draw against Everton in the Week 36 of the English Premier League on Sunday afternoon. His strike has taken him 20 goals and two assists in the current campaign.

Sarr’s remarkable season has seen him emerge as Palace’s most decisive attacking force, delivering goals consistently and carrying the Eagles in crucial moments throughout the campaign.

The enterprising attacker reaching the 20-goal mark is particularly significant given the calibre of attacking talent that has passed through Selhurst Park over the past decade.

Several high-profile stars including Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and club icon Wilfried Zaha all dazzled in Crystal Palace colours but were unable to hit the 20-goal milestone in a single season.

That statistic underlines just how extraordinary Sarr’s campaign has been.

Since arriving at Palace, the Senegal international has steadily developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking players, combining blistering pace with improved finishing and greater composure in the final third.

This season, however, has represented a new level entirely. Whether operating from the wing or in more advanced attacking roles, Sarr has consistently delivered match-winning performances, tormenting defenders with his direct style and clinical end product.

His goals have played a major role in Crystal Palace’s impressive campaign and have further strengthened his reputation as one of Africa’s standout performers in European football.

Breaking a record that stood untouched since Glenn Murray’s prolific Championship-winning season in 2012/13 is no small achievement, especially at a club where attacking consistency has often been difficult to maintain over a full campaign.

What makes Sarr’s accomplishment even more impressive is the fact that Palace supporters have witnessed numerous gifted forwards and creative stars over the years, many of whom became fan favourites without reaching the landmark he has now surpassed.

While Olise dazzled with creativity, Eze thrilled with flair and Zaha became a club legend through his influence and loyalty, it is Sarr who has now delivered one of the most productive individual attacking seasons in modern Crystal Palace history.

The milestone also serves as another reminder of Sarr’s growing importance for both club and country.

As Senegal national football team continue building toward future international competitions, the former Watford star’s form will undoubtedly excite supporters back home.

For Crystal Palace fans, meanwhile, Sarr’s historic season is already securing its place among the club’s most memorable modern campaigns.
