Senegalese winger Ismaïla Sarr praised by Glasner for Crystal Palace form

Ismaïla Sarr has been hailed by Oliver Glasner as a key figure for Crystal Palace F.C. after the winger scored against HŠK Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League, putting him one goal shy of surpassing his previous season’s tally with the club.

Sarr, who recently returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, has become indispensable for Palace, particularly in the absence of Jean-Philippe Mateta.

While other attacking options such as Brennan Johnson and Yeremy Pino are yet to fully establish themselves, Sarr’s performances have consistently impressed, culminating in a goal in the first leg of the Conference League playoff against the Bosnian side last Thursday, which ended 1-1.

Glasner, speaking at a press conference on Friday, emphasised the Senegalese winger’s influence on the squad.

“I think Ismaila is having a fantastic season. He’s currently our top scorer in all competitions. He’s scored three goals in the last four games and now has 11 goals this season.

He’s never had a season like this at any top-flight club, even after missing many games due to the Africa Cup of Nations. Ismaila is very important for us: his game is excellent, he’s always in a position to score,” Glasner said.

Sarr’s form marks a personal best in top-flight football, reflecting his growing role at Selhurst Park. Last season, the 2021 and 2025 African champion scored 12 goals in 47 appearances, but this campaign, despite missing games due to international duty, he is on track to surpass that record.

The winger’s consistency and decisive contributions underscore his importance to Crystal Palace’s attacking setup.

Glasner’s comments highlight the reliance the team places on Sarr to deliver in crucial matches and maintain momentum in both domestic and European competitions.
