Ismail Jakobs says Galatasaray are eager to face Barcelona in the Champions League, with the Senegal international expecting an electric atmosphere when the Turkish side host the Spanish giants on Tuesday, 13 October.
Galatasaray will welcome Barcelona for their second match of the Champions League campaign, with Jakobs anticipating a difficult contest against the Catalan club. Both players and supporters are looking forward to the encounter, which comes as the Istanbul side enter a busy period following the international break.
The Turkish champions returned to domestic action on Friday, 9 October, with a 3-1 victory over Kasimpasa in their Süper Lig Matchday 7 fixture. The result provided a positive response to their disappointing 4-0 defeat against Trabzonspor before the international break.
Galatasaray will now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they face a demanding test against Barcelona as their schedule becomes increasingly congested.
Speaking to the club’s official media after the win over Kasimpasa, Jakobs reflected on the challenges of returning to action after the international break and praised his team’s performance.
“I think the period following the international break is always very difficult; we knew that. In addition, many of our players have traveled far. I think we delivered a very good performance, especially in the first half, before being unlucky at the start of the second half with that red card; that said, both teams had chances and the stadium was electric at the end of the match ,” Ismail Jakobs analyzed in front of his club’s cameras.
The defender acknowledged the physical and competitive demands that follow the international break, particularly for players who have travelled long distances to represent their countries.
Despite the difficulties, Galatasaray managed to secure all three points against Kasimpasa, giving the team a boost ahead of their European assignment.
Their attention will now shift to Barcelona, with the Turkish side preparing to host the Spanish club in a fixture expected to attract considerable interest from supporters.
Jakobs believes the occasion will be special for both the players and the fans, although he recognises the challenge posed by their opponents.
“Everyone is eagerly awaiting this game, both the fans and the players . The atmosphere in the stadium promises to be electric. It will be a tough and very difficult match, but we are all excited and eager to play it ,” he added.
Galatasaray will hope to carry the momentum from their domestic victory into the Champions League encounter as they prepare to test themselves against Barcelona.
For Jakobs and his team-mates, the fixture presents an opportunity to deliver a strong performance on a major European stage, with the defender making clear that the squad are looking forward to the challenge.
The match is scheduled for Tuesday, 13 October, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.
