Ismaël Saibari scored a standout goal for PSV Eindhoven, but Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 away victory to end the Dutch side’s Champions League campaign on the final night of the group stage.
PSV needed a positive result to keep their hopes alive, yet they were undone late on by the German champions, who finished the group phase strongly to secure second place behind Arsenal.
The defeat confirmed PSV’s elimination, with the club ending the competition in 28th position and missing out on a place in the play-offs.
After a goalless first half, Bayern broke the deadlock in the 58th minute through Jamal Musiala. Making his return from injury, the midfielder marked the occasion by scoring his first goal since coming back, giving the visitors control of the contest.
PSV responded with renewed intensity and were rewarded in the 78th minute. Saibari capitalised on a loose ball after Harry Kane lost possession, producing a superb strike to bring the home side level.
The goal lifted the atmosphere inside the stadium and briefly reignited hopes of a late turnaround.
However, Bayern quickly reasserted themselves. Just six minutes after PSV’s equaliser, Kane made amends by restoring the visitors’ lead in the 84th minute.
The goal proved decisive, extinguishing PSV’s remaining chances and confirming their exit from the competition.
Despite the disappointment of elimination, Saibari’s performance stood out on a challenging night for the Dutch side. His goal was the highlight of PSV’s display and offered a reminder of his growing influence at the highest level of European football.
For Bayern, the result capped a consistent group-stage campaign. Finishing second, behind Arsenal and ahead of Liverpool, the German side ensured direct qualification to the next phase and maintained momentum heading into the knockout rounds.
The match also reflected the fine margins at elite European level. PSV competed for long periods and found a moment of brilliance through Saibari, but Bayern’s experience and efficiency ultimately proved decisive.
As the Champions League group stage concludes, PSV turn their focus away from Europe, while Bayern progress with confidence after navigating a demanding group and delivering when it mattered most.
