Ismael Saibari focused on World Cup despite Bayern Munich transfer talk – Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has insisted that star forward Ismael Saibari remains fully focused on the World Cup, despite growing reports linking him with a high-profile move to German champions Bayern Munich.
Speaking ahead of Morocco’s second Group C match against Scotland at Gillette Stadium on Friday, Ouahbi acknowledged the speculation surrounding the player’s future but stressed that no deal has been officially confirmed.
“We don’t decide the timing of course, but it is not official yet,” he told reporters on Thursday. “We are really proud when Moroccan players are able to play for big clubs like Bayern Munich.”
Saibari, 25, delivered a standout performance in Morocco’s opening 1–1 draw with Brazil, scoring his side’s only goal to underline his importance to the squad.
Born in Spain and raised in Belgium, the attacking midfielder enjoyed a prolific season with PSV Eindhoven, netting 19 goals in all competitions as the Dutch side clinched the league title. Reports in European media suggest Bayern Munich have already reached an agreement to sign him, subject to a medical.
Ouahbi, however, downplayed any distraction. “The player is really calm about it all… he is concentrating on playing for Morocco,” he said, adding that he shares a long-standing relationship with Bayern manager Vincent Kompany and expects the process to remain professional.
“He is quick, powerful, and showed against Brazil that he knows how to finish,” Scotland head coach Steve Clarke also noted ahead of the clash, highlighting the threat Saibari poses in attack.
Saibari has featured across several attacking roles for Morocco, including as an attacking midfielder, winger, and central forward, underlining his versatility as the Atlas Lions continue their World Cup campaign.
