Bayern Munich’s Moroccan star Ismael Saibari excited by Kompany’s attacking style

Morocco midfielder Ismael Saibari says Bayern Munich’s high-intensity style under Vincent Kompany was a major factor in his decision to leave PSV Eindhoven for the Bundesliga giants.

The 25-year-old completed his move to Bayern this summer and has signed a contract that runs until 2031, beginning a new chapter after an impressive spell in the Netherlands.

Saibari believes Bayern’s approach to the game is well suited to his qualities and will help him continue developing at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Saibari impressed by Kompany’s approach

Speaking during his official unveiling on Friday, Saibari explained that Bayern’s style of football immediately appealed to him.

“Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Their style of play suits me. They’ve given me the confidence that I can improve here,” Saibari told reporters.

He added: “Bayern have been playing with great intensity since Vincent Kompany took over. I saw that myself last season. I like this style of play, and I’m looking forward to the new task.”

The Moroccan sees himself primarily as a number 10 but believes his versatility could allow him to play different roles within Kompany’s system.

“My favorite position is number 10, everyone knows that. But I can play in several positions, we always switch around during games anyway,” he noted.

“I can also play out wide and a bit deeper.”

Champions League display convinced Bayern

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl revealed that Saibari’s performance against the German side in the Champions League played an important role in the decision to sign him.

Bayern defeated PSV in their January meeting, but Saibari’s performance left a lasting impression on the club’s recruitment team.

“We’ve known Ismael for some time. The final real sign that he was the right player for FC Bayern was the match against us,” Eberl recalled.

“He caused problems again and again with his pace and versatility. He’s got something special.”

The assessment reflects the qualities Bayern believe Saibari can bring to their attack, particularly his ability to operate in different positions while maintaining an attacking threat.

Saibari arrives after impressive PSV spell

The Moroccan enjoyed an outstanding final campaign at PSV, where he was named the Dutch league’s player of the season.

He finished his time with the Eindhoven club having contributed 42 goals and 29 assists, while also making a major impact for Morocco at the 2026 World Cup.

Saibari scored in all three of Morocco’s group-stage matches against Brazil, Scotland and Haiti, further raising his profile before his move to Germany.

His start at Bayern was delayed by a thigh injury suffered during the World Cup, but he has now returned to full team training ahead of the new campaign.

With his injury setback behind him, Saibari will now look to establish himself in Kompany’s Bayern side and justify the faith shown in him by one of Europe’s most successful clubs.
