Ismaël Gharbi joins Leganés in Spain transfer

Tunisia international Ismaël Gharbi has completed a move to Spanish second-tier club CD Leganés as he looks to restart his career after a difficult period marked by limited playing opportunities.

The Spanish club confirmed the arrival of the attacking midfielder through a post on its official X account, announcing Gharbi as their latest signing ahead of the new campaign.

The move sees the 20-year-old return to Spanish football after a period of uncertainty surrounding his future. Gharbi, who began his career in the youth system of Paris Saint-Germain, has struggled to maintain regular first-team football in recent seasons.

The Tunisian player has spent much of his senior career away from his parent clubs through a series of loan moves. Since 2024, he has been contracted to Portuguese side Sporting Braga, but his development has been interrupted by limited opportunities.

His most recent loan spell came at German club Augsburg, where he made only six appearances before returning to seek a new challenge.

Leganés now provides Gharbi with an opportunity to find consistency and rebuild his confidence in Spain’s second division.

The club will hope the move can help the talented midfielder rediscover the form that once made him highly regarded during his time at Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite his struggles at club level, Gharbi remains part of the Tunisia national team setup. The midfielder represented the Carthage Eagles at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in all three group-stage matches against Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands.

His international experience at such a major tournament highlights the potential that has surrounded him since his early years in football.

The transfer to Leganés represents a fresh opportunity for Gharbi to secure regular minutes and continue his development.

After several loan spells and limited appearances, the Tunisia international will now aim to establish himself as an important player for the Spanish side.

For Leganés, the signing brings in a player with experience from top European environments and international football.

The club will be hoping Gharbi can rediscover his best form and make a significant contribution during the upcoming season.

The move marks another important stage in the career of a player who is still seeking to fulfil the promise shown during his early development at PSG.
