Ismael Bennacer’s potential switch to Al-Ittihad Jeddah has stalled, and it’s not because of the Algerian star’s lack of interest.
Sources in Saudi Arabia say the move has been put on ice as the club awaits the election of a new president. With no leadership in place, Al-Ittihad has not tabled any official bid to AC Milan for the midfielder’s services.
Reports suggested that the Jeddah-based side was keen to unite Bennacer with fellow Algerian Houssem Aouar this summer. But French outlet Foot Mercato claims the Saudi Pro League outfit has shifted focus to other midfield options, pending internal changes at the club.
Still, Bennacer remains open to a move to Saudi Arabia, which could smooth things out if Al-Ittihad makes a serious approach.
If the deal doesn’t materialize, Marseille may step back in. The Ligue 1 club is still seen as a possible destination after Bennacer’s loan stint there last season, offering a familiar environment should Al-Ittihad step aside.
