Islam Slimani rejects retirement at 38 as former Algeria striker seeks final challenge

Islam Slimani has no plans to retire from professional football despite being without a club at the age of 38.

The Algeria international became a free agent after his contract with Romanian club CFR Cluj ended. However, the veteran striker remains determined to continue his career and is waiting for a concrete offer.

Slimani confirmed his intentions in an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe. After a career spanning 14 teams in nine countries, the former Monaco forward says he still believes he can compete at the highest level.

The striker, who was born in El Hammamet, also insists that his physical condition remains excellent. He has ruled out making a rushed decision about his future, saying his experience and current fitness mean he is still capable of playing professionally.

Slimani has therefore rejected the prospect of retirement for now, despite his age and the fact that he is currently without a club. His priority is to find an opportunity that would allow him to extend his playing career.

With most European transfer windows already closed, the former Algeria international is looking beyond the continent for his next move.

There are several options available to Slimani in Asia, according to Africafoot. In Africa, Ittihad Tanger had also shown interest in signing the 38-year-old striker.

For the moment, however, no move has been completed. Slimani continues to wait for a proposal as he considers one more challenge in professional football.
