Islam Slimani, the seasoned center forward with 98 caps and 45 goals, has spotlighted the emerging talent he believes will symbolize the future of Algerian football. In a recent interview discussing his initial months at Coritiba, insights into the upcoming AFCON 2023 with the Algerian team, and contemplations about his future with the Fennecs, Slimani shared his sentiments on the performances of his teammate, Mohamed Amoura.
Amoura, a 23-year-old player who joined Union Saint-Gilloise from FC Lugano in August, has left an indelible mark in each of his last five meetings, securing Slimani’s admiration.
The co-top scorer in the history of World Cup qualifiers expressed, “Amoura’s success is deserved.
He’s a humble person, who works a lot, and that’s the secret.” In the show “Talents d’Afrique” on Canal+ Sport Africa, Slimani added, “For me, Amoura is the future of Algerian football.”
Under the guidance of USG coach Alexander Blessin, Amoura has been a cornerstone in Union 60’s outstanding season, claiming the winter champion title with an eight-point lead over Anderlecht after 18 days in the Jupiler Pro League.
As the top scorer in his team with 16 goals, he ranks second in the Jupiler Pro League with 12 goals, trailing only Togolese striker Kévin Denkey (14).
With 23 appearances, including 12 starts, Amoura has proven indispensable in the eyes of Coach Blessin. As Union 60 continues to excel, the pure product of ES Sétif is set to secure his place in Coach Djamel Belmadi’s final list for AFCON 2023, potentially earning a spot in the starting eleven.
Amidst the buzz surrounding Amoura’s prowess, it’s worth noting that the 1.70m player is part of the pre-list of 50 players published on Wednesday.
Additionally, he is among the 27 set to travel to Ivory Coast, a journey influenced by the recent blunder by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). As the football world anticipates the unfolding narrative, Amoura’s trajectory signals a promising future for Algerian football.
