Islam Sadiq handed one-month broadcasting ban by Egypt’s media regulator

Islam Sadiq has been banned from appearing in the media for one month by Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation, while Nada El Hosseiny, a presenter on Voice of Zamalek Radio, has been suspended for three weeks.

The decisions were issued after the council found breaches of its media codes and standards, following recommendations from its Complaints Committee.

Sadiq has also been referred to the Journalists’ Syndicate for it to take the appropriate action, according to the council.

El Hosseiny, who presents the programme Curva Sud on Voice of Zamalek Radio, has been prohibited from appearing for three weeks. The radio station has additionally been ordered to pay a fine of 50,000 Egyptian pounds for violating the relevant codes and standards.

The council had previously summoned the person responsible for social media accounts operating under the name “Islam Sadiq” to attend a hearing before its Complaints Committee.

That action followed reports prepared by the council’s General Monitoring Administration and its Committee for Regulating Sports Media Performance, chaired by Abdel Salam El Naggar, vice-president of the State Lawsuits Authority and a council member.

The Complaints Committee, chaired by Essam El Amir, the council’s deputy, called in the account official to discuss material published through the social media accounts. The hearing concerned alleged breaches of Law 180 of 2018, which governs press and media regulation and sets out the powers of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation.

In July, the council had issued a warning to Sadiq and several other media figures after considering recommendations from the Complaints Committee and the Committee for Regulating Sports Media Performance.

However, after the national team’s strong performance during its participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the council reviewed and discussed those recommendations and decided at the time to postpone putting them into effect.

The latest action involving Voice of Zamalek Radio follows a separate hearing held last week. The station’s legal representative was summoned after the programme Curva Sud was found to have breached media codes during an episode broadcast on 10 September.

The council’s decisions were therefore based on separate findings involving Sadiq’s social media activity and the content of the Voice of Zamalek Radio programme. Both cases were examined through the council’s monitoring and complaints procedures before the penalties were announced.
