Isaak Nwachukwu: German-Nigerian striker joins Wattenscheid 09 on free transfer from SC Verl II

German-Nigerian centre-forward Isaak Nwachukwu has joined Wattenscheid 09 on a free transfer from SC Verl II. The 21-year-old moves into the Regionalliga West sides attack after a productive season in the Oberliga Westfalen.

Nwachukwu, who stands at 1.85m and plays primarily through the middle, switches clubs after featuring prominently for SC Verl II. Last term he scored 10 goals and added four assists in 28 Oberliga Westfalen appearances, underlining his ability to contribute regularly in the final third. He also gained experience in the Regionalliga West, making 14 appearances and being involved in three goals.

Born in November 2004 and eligible for both Germany and Nigeria, Nwachukwu has been valued at around 25,000 going into the move. He will wear the number 30 shirt at Wattenscheid 09, where he will compete for a place in the forward line as the club look to strengthen their attacking options.

Before his time at Verl, Nwachukwu came through the youth system at Borussia Dortmund, progressing from the U17s to the U19s. During his spell there he was part of a highly successful generation, winning the German Under-19 Bundesliga once and the Under-19 Bundesliga West title twice.

After leaving Dortmunds academy ranks in 2023, he initially spent a period without a club before signing for SC Verl II in 2024 and later spending a loan spell with SF Lotte. His permanent move to Wattenscheid 09 marks the latest step in his senior career as he returns to the Regionalliga West on a free transfer.
