Marseille Eye Central Defender Amid Departures
Facing a shortage in central defense for the upcoming season, Olympique de Marseille is reportedly considering a move for former Rennes defender of Ivorian descent, Joris Gnagnon, according to the club’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
The Marseille squad will be short-handed next season. Aymen Abdennour’s loan has ended, while Tomas Hubocan and Rolando are expected to leave at the end of their contracts. In response, the club is actively seeking reinforcements at the heart of defense.
Marseille is weighing two main options: Joris Gnagnon, priced at €15 million, and Nîmes’ Briançon, whom the club considers indispensable. The Ligue 1 side must make a careful decision to strengthen their defense without repeating past transfer mistakes.
