Iraq v Oman: Watch live as Gulf 27 begins with Group A clash

Iraq face Oman in the opening round of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium, with both sides beginning their bid to reach the semi-finals.

The two teams are in Group A alongside Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The top two teams in each group will progress to the last four.

Under the competition’s format, the Group A winners will play the Group B runners-up in one semi-final, while the Group B winners will face the Group A runners-up in the other. The two semi-final winners will meet in the final on 6 October 2026 to decide the champions of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup.

Iraq will start with a 4-2-3-1 formation for their opening match against Oman.

Ahmed Basra is in goal, with Mustafa Saadoun, Akam Hashim, Zaid Tahseen and Ahmed Yahya in defence.

Karrar Nabil and Zaid Ismail form the midfield base, behind Hassan Abdulkarim, Mohammed Qasim and Ibrahim Bayesh. Ayman Hussein leads the attack.

The Iraq National Team confirmed the starting line-up on 23 September 2026 in a post describing the fixture as the national team’s opening match in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup.

Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini starts in goal, with Amjad Al-Harthy, Khalid Al-Buraiki, Khalid Al-Ghatrifi and Ahmed Al-Kaabi selected in defence.

Sultan Al-Marzouqi and Harib Al-Saadi are the two holding midfielders. Jameel Al-Yahmadi, Abdullah Fawaz and Nasser Al-Rawahi are named in the attacking midfield positions, with Issam Al-Subhi up front.

Victory would give either side an important early advantage in a group where the leading two places determine who advances to the semi-finals.
