Iraq and Oman draw 1-1 in Gulf Cup 27 opener

Iraq and Oman began Gulf Cup 27 with a 1-1 draw after an entertaining opening match in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Mohammed Qasim put Iraq ahead in the sixth minute, striking powerfully from inside the penalty area to give his side an early advantage.

Oman recovered after the break and levelled through Nasser Al-Rawahi in the 67th minute. He produced a run into the area before firing his shot past the Iraqi defence.

The result leaves both teams with one point in Group A, which also includes Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Saudi Arabia will face Kuwait at 21:00, with the match completing the opening round of fixtures in the group.

Group B is made up of United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen.
