Ipswich sign Ivorian-French right-back Abdoul Ouattara from Strasbourg for €20m
Ivorian-French defender Abdoul Ouattara has joined Ipswich Town from Strasbourg for €20m, making the 20-year-old right-back the latest arrival at the Premier League club.
Ouattara moves to England after progressing through Strasbourg’s academy and establishing himself in the club’s senior set-up. He joined Strasbourg’s under-17 side in 2020, moved into the under-19 team a year later and subsequently played for Strasbourg B before stepping up to the first team in January 2025.
The defender made 45 Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He also featured eight times in the Conference League, where he scored twice, and played in the Coupe de France.
Ouattara’s move to Ipswich was completed on 17 August 2026, with the transfer taking him from France’s top flight to the Premier League. His arrival gives Ipswich another option at right-back as the club prepares for its latest campaign in English football’s top division.
Born in Zoukpangbeu, Ouattara has both Ivorian and French nationality. He also represented Strasbourg at youth level, scoring six goals in 23 National Under-19 appearances and adding three goals and an assist in the Coupe Gambardella.
His senior record includes further appearances in France’s National 2 and National 3 competitions, reflecting a progression through Strasbourg’s youth and reserve teams before his move abroad.
Ouattara has signed a contract with Ipswich running until 30 June 2031.
