Algeria are monitoring Inter Milan midfielder Yannis Massolin as coach Ibrahim Hamdani begins reshaping the national team, but administrative delays are threatening to prevent the 24-year-old from making his international debut in the immediate future.
According to French website Foot Mercato, Massolin is among the players being considered to strengthen Algeria’s midfield after Hamdani’s first training camp failed to fully meet expectations.
The midfielder is currently on loan from Inter Milan at Cagliari. Standing at 1.97 metres, he offers a combination of physical strength, agility and technical ability on the ball which has attracted the attention of the Algeria Football Federation.
However, Massolin has not yet completed the administrative procedures required to represent Algeria. The federation has been following his progress since his time in Belgium, but his eligibility remains unresolved.
That makes his involvement in Algeria’s two matches against Togo on 14 and 17 November, in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, unlikely unless there is an unexpected development.
Hamdani is therefore expected to continue assessing alternative options as he works to reinforce his midfield following the national team’s opening camp.
