Zambia Edge Ethiopia 1–0 in Friendly Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers
Zambia secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Ethiopia on Sunday in a friendly match held as part of both teams’ preparations for the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The decisive goal came in the first half, courtesy of Allan Mukula, who found the back of the net to give the Chipolopolo the lead. Despite Ethiopia’s efforts to respond, the East African side failed to convert their chances — most notably when Binyam Assefa missed a penalty in the final 15 minutes of the match, a squandered opportunity that could have leveled the score.
The result will serve as a confidence boost for Zambia heading into their AFCON qualifying campaign, while Ethiopia will look to regroup and address key weaknesses ahead of competitive fixtures.
