Inter sign England international Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur

Inter have completed the signing of England full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur, with the defender agreeing a contract that runs until 2031.

The Italian club will pay 35m euros for Spence, as well as handing Tottenham Hotspur 10% of any future transfer fee. He arrives at Inter as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who has moved to Real Madrid.

Spence becomes only the second English player to join Inter this season and the fifth in the club’s history. John Stones preceded him after joining on a free transfer this summer.

The 25-year-old follows a small group of English players who have represented the Nerazzurri, including Jerry Hitchens, Paul Ince and Ashley Young.

Spence returns to Serie A after previously playing in Italy for Genoa in 2024. His move to Inter also marks the latest step in a career that has included spells in France, England and Italy.

Speaking to Inter’s official website, Spence said: “This is a huge club and a big step for me and my family. I am extremely happy to be here and I am ready to get started.”

He added: “I was certainly attracted by the history. You only have to look at all the trophies we have won. It is truly a historic club.”

The defender also reflected on his experience of playing abroad.

“Playing in France, England and Italy has shaped my character a lot. You learn a great deal when you play abroad. I can say that I became a man when I was abroad, and I am grateful for those experiences,” he said.

Djed Spence is described as the first Muslim player to represent England in the national team’s history. He was also a key member of the Three Lions squad at the 2026 World Cup, where England won the bronze medal.

His arrival is part of a busy summer transfer window for Inter under head coach Cristian Chivu. The club have also signed Serbian midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic, goalkeeper Ivan Provedel and John Stones.

Inter have additionally activated the purchase clause in Manuel Akanji’s agreement, completing another important piece of business during the close season.

Spence’s long-term contract underlines the club’s commitment to the England international, who now joins Inter after his previous experience in Italy with Genoa. His signing also gives the Nerazzurri another option at full-back following Dumfries’ departure to Real Madrid.
