Inter reach agreement with Tottenham to sign Djed Spence, says Fabrizio Romano

Inter have reached a verbal agreement with Tottenham to sign Djed Spence during the summer transfer window, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The deal is understood to be worth 31m euros, with Inter having already agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old England international.

Spence is expected to join Inter as the club looks to replace Denzel Dumfries, who left for Real Madrid in a transfer worth 20m euros. His ability to operate as both a full-back and a winger on either flank has made him a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy on the right side of the squad.

Inter had previously attempted to sign Marco Balestra from Atalanta, but Chelsea intervened at the last moment and completed the deal for the player.

Spence is reportedly enthusiastic about the prospect of moving to the Italian club. Inter won both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia last season and will compete in the UEFA Champions League again in the forthcoming campaign.

The proposed transfer would see Spence return to Italian football after an earlier loan spell with Genoa. He made 16 Serie A appearances during that period, gaining experience of the league in which Inter compete.

Spence featured in 44 matches for Tottenham during the 2025-26 season. He remains under contract with the north London club until 2029, although the reported agreement between the two clubs could now pave the way for his departure.

The defender has also played an important role for England. He appeared in every match for the national team at the 2026 World Cup.

Spence provided an assist in England’s 6-4 victory over France in the match to decide the bronze-medal winner. His contribution came in a high-scoring contest as England secured third place.

The move would give Inter a player capable of covering several positions across the defence and wide areas. Spence can play as a full-back or winger on both the right and left, offering tactical flexibility as the club prepares for another season competing in domestic football and Europe.

Inter’s agreement with Tottenham is currently described as verbal, meaning the transfer remains subject to the final formalities. However, with the Italian club having also settled the player’s personal terms, the negotiations have advanced significantly.
