Inter Milan have reportedly withdrawn from the pursuit of Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate, ending their interest in the France international of Malian descent.

Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has played down the possibility of Konate making a move to Serie A, citing the financial limitations facing Italian clubs. Despite the defender’s contract set to expire next summer and interest from several of Europe’s top sides, Inter are now said to be unlikely to push forward with a deal.

Konate had been on the radar of the Nerazzurri as they assessed options to reinforce their backline, but the club is now expected to redirect its focus elsewhere.

With Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi both likely to depart at the end of the season, Inter are prioritising the signing of a new central defender ahead of the next campaign.

As a result, the Viale della Liberazione outfit are monitoring alternative targets across Europe, with Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez all emerging as potential options as Inter reshape their defence.
