Inter Milan target Moussa Diaby as Mohamed Salah transfer domino looms

Inter Milan have reportedly placed Moussa Diaby at the top of their summer wishlist, with the Italian giants hoping a high-profile “domino effect” involving Mohamed Salah will facilitate the Frenchman’s return to Europe.

After a failed attempt to land the winger during the January window, the Nerazzurri are now monitoring Al-Ittihad’s transfer activity with renewed optimism, believing that the Saudi club’s pursuit of the Liverpool talisman could force Diaby onto the market.

The central piece of this transfer puzzle is Al-Ittihad’s long-standing ambition to sign Salah. Should the Egyptian star finally make the move to the Saudi Pro League this summer, the Jeddah-based club would likely need to restructure their squad and wage bill.

Inter Milan officials are banking on this scenario, anticipating that Diaby would be the primary candidate for sacrifice to accommodate Salah’s arrival.

Inter’s management reportedly views Diaby as the ideal profile to inject pace and elite dribbling into Simone Inzaghi’s tactical system.

The French international is said to be receptive to the move. Despite a productive stint in the Middle East—where he registered five goals and 13 assists during the 2024–25 season—Diaby is reportedly keen to test himself in Serie A.

At 26, the former Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen man is considered to be in his prime, and a move to the reigning Italian champions would offer him a direct path back into the Champions League spotlight and the French national team conversation.

However, Inter may face stiff competition. In a twist of irony, Liverpool has also been linked with Diaby as a potential direct replacement for Salah at Anfield.

While Inter cannot match the financial might of the Premier League, they hope that the lure of being a guaranteed starter in Milan will outweigh other offers.
