Inter Milan identify Oumar Solet as leading summer target to reinforce defence

Inter Milan have placed Udinese centre-back Oumar Solet at the top of their shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window, as the Serie A giants begin planning for a new defensive era.

With uncertainty surrounding the future of experienced Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij, who is expected to depart at the end of the campaign, Inter’s hierarchy are moving swiftly to secure a long-term successor capable of anchoring their backline.

Solet, 26, was born in France and is of Ivorian and Central African descent, a background that has shaped both his identity and his football journey. Strong in the tackle, composed in possession and comfortable operating in a back three or four, he has developed into one of Serie A’s most dependable defenders this season. His blend of physical presence and tactical awareness has not gone unnoticed, particularly by a club intent on maintaining domestic dominance while remaining competitive in Europe.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Inter’s interest is concrete, with the defender emerging as the preferred candidate across the club’s decision-making structure.

The report suggests there is broad agreement within the boardroom that Solet represents the ideal profile to refresh the squad, combining experience with room for further growth.

Since arriving at Udinese Calcio from RB Salzburg in January 2025, Solet has become a central figure in Udinese’s defensive set-up. He has made 48 appearances in all competitions, quickly establishing himself as a leader at the heart of defence. That consistency and durability have strengthened his appeal to Inter, who view him not merely as cover for a potential departure, but as a cornerstone for the future.
