Inter Miami confirm Kily Gonzalez arrival as head coach until 2028

Inter Miami have confirmed that Argentine coach Cristian “Kily” Gonzalez has arrived in Florida to formally take charge of the club, with his contract running until June 2028.

The club, whose squad includes Argentina captain Lionel Messi, said Gonzalez completed the necessary work permit procedures before beginning his new role.

His first task will be to lead training ahead of Inter Miami’s meeting with Mexican side Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup on Wednesday evening. The match will be Gonzalez’s first in charge from the touchline.

Coaching career

Gonzalez began his coaching career with Rosario Central’s reserve team. After two seasons, he was promoted to the senior side and managed 68 matches across three seasons between 2020 and 2022.

He then took charge of Union de Santa Fe, leading the club in 78 matches over three seasons from 2023 to 2025. Gonzalez subsequently managed Platense during the 2025 season.

Playing career

Before moving into management, Gonzalez enjoyed a distinguished playing career. He came through the Rosario Central youth system before making his professional debut for the first team in 1993.

He later played for Boca Juniors before moving to Europe, joining Spanish club Real Zaragoza in 1996. Gonzalez subsequently represented Valencia and Inter.

During his time with Valencia, he won the Spanish Super Cup in the 1999-2000 season. With Inter, he claimed the Italian Cup in two successive seasons, 2004-2005 and 2005-2006, and also won the Italian league title in 2005-2006.

At international level, Gonzalez made 56 appearances for Argentina. He was also part of the team that won the gold medal at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
