Inside Hossam Hassan’s new Egypt deal: 100% pay rise, $40k monthly salary and tough new clauses

Hossam Hassan is set to receive a significant salary increase as part of his new long-term contract with Egypt, with reports revealing financial details of the proposed agreement that will keep him in charge of the Pharaohs until 2030.

The Egyptian Football Association announced on Wednesday that Hassan’s contract extension had been approved, but details of the improved package have now emerged, including a 100 percent increase in his current earnings.

According to Yallakora, a source familiar with the negotiations revealed that Hassan’s new monthly salary will rise to at least EGP 2 million, which is approximately US$40,000 per month and around US$480,000 annually based on current exchange rates.

The proposed increase represents a doubling of his previous salary as the Egyptian FA moves to finalise terms with the former national team striker.

New deal includes performance conditions

Despite the improved financial terms, Hassan’s contract is also expected to include a number of strict performance-related clauses.

A source told Yallakora that one of the proposed conditions is the automatic termination of the agreement if Egypt fail to qualify for either the Africa Cup of Nations or the FIFA World Cup during the contract period.

“The Egyptian Football Association will also include a clause requiring Egypt to reach at least the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations,” the source added.

However, the conditions remain subject to discussions among federation officials before the final agreement is signed.

“All of these are proposed clauses put forward by some members of the board. They will be discussed and some may be amended depending on the views of the other board members.”

Contract talks follow historic World Cup campaign

The new salary structure comes after Hassan oversaw Egypt’s strongest-ever FIFA World Cup showing.

The Pharaohs achieved a historic milestone by securing their first World Cup victory and reaching the knockout stage for the first time in the country’s history, strengthening Hassan’s position ahead of the contract renewal.

The Egyptian FA’s decision to extend his deal until 2030 signals a commitment to continuity, but the proposed clauses underline the federation’s expectations for sustained success in major competitions.
