FIFA has invalidated the South Africa vs. Spain friendly match played on Tuesday in Johannesburg, despite South Africa’s 1-0 victory over the reigning world champions. The decision was based on Spain making a seventh forced change following an injury to FC Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdès, which exceeded the allowed quota of six substitutions in official friendly matches according to FIFA regulations. As a result, South Africa’s victory will not be counted in the next FIFA rankings.
