Egypt forward Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet is expected to be sidelined for up to ten days after picking up an injury at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Egyptian Football Association member Mostafa Abu Zahra.
The attacker sustained the injury during Egypt’s Round of 16 encounter against Benin on Monday evening. Trezeguet was forced off during the match, which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Pharaohs.
Speaking on the “Ten” channel during the Al-Primo programme, Abu Zahra confirmed that the injury is not serious but will keep the winger out for a short period.
“Trezeguet’s injury is minor, it needs a week to ten days, meaning that Trezeguet will miss the match against Ivory Coast and the semi-final match if the Egyptian national team qualifies,” he said.
Abu Zahra stressed that the team’s full attention is now on the quarter-final clash against Ivory Coast, the defending champions.
“Our entire focus is on facing Ivory Coast, a great team and the title holder. The coaching staff has done everything they can, the players are real men, the camp is very well organised, and there is nothing but focus on the upcoming match,” he noted.
He also highlighted the approach of head coach Hossam Hassan, particularly his emphasis on team spirit and mental preparation.
“Hossam Hassan focuses heavily on the morale aspect, and has held individual sessions and meetings with the strikers, midfielders and defenders,” Abu Zahra added.
Despite acknowledging the quality of their opponents, Abu Zahra expressed confidence in Egypt’s pedigree on the continent.
“Ivory Coast is a respectable and great team, but we are Egypt, the best team in the history of the African continent,” he added.
Egypt are scheduled to face Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, January 10.
