The National Union of Footballers of Cameroon has sadly announced the passing of Salomon Bengondo on its website. The Cameroonian footballer, officially aged 26, passed away on November 29, 2013, in what is described as a “sudden death.” The information is based on the testimony of a member of the Indonesian Association of Professional Footballers, recounting that Bengondo began vomiting and collapsed.
Rigobert Salomon Guy Bengondo had been without a club since the end of the 2011-2012 season. According to Synafoc, the native of Yaoundé had to cease playing with Persipro Bond-U, his last club, due to unpaid wages. Bengondo was reportedly not receiving his salaries or bonuses, with the footballers’ union in Cameroon stating that “during an entire season spent in the ranks of Persipro Bond-u, Salomon Bengondo received only 20% of his signing bonus and almost no salary.” Prior to his time at Persipro Bond-U, Bengondo had played for Indonesian clubs Psis Samarang, Persih Tembilahan, and Persikota Tangerang.
