Inaki Williams takes responsibility for Athletic Club’s difficult season
Inaki Williams has delivered a heartfelt message to Athletic Club supporters as the Basque side navigate the final stretch of a challenging campaign.
The captain openly acknowledged that the team has underperformed and accepted his share of blame for the disappointing results.
“This hasn’t been an easy season. Not personally nor as a team. Expectations were very high, but the result isn’t up to what this club and this fanbase deserve,” Williams wrote on social media.
“As captain, I take my part of the responsibility. The team has suffered a lot during the season, but we’ve also learned from mistakes, from difficult moments and from everything we’ve experienced this year. I’m convinced all this will make us stronger for the future,” he added.
The forward also acknowledged the frustration at San Mames while defending the squad’s commitment. “We perfectly understand the fans’ frustration. Athletic always demands giving the maximum and people are free to express their opinion when things don’t work out. But I also want to say this group hasn’t stopped working a single day, putting in all the heart possible,” Williams stated.
Despite the setback, Athletic still have European qualification hopes with two matches remaining.
